The City of Chicago is magical during the Christmas season. Everywhere you look there are light shows, decorations, and festivities. Outstanding Christmas celebrations and light shows include the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier, Hancock Holiday Mountain, A Great View, and Santa Too at the John Hancock Observatory, and the German Christkindlmarkt at Daley Plaza.
Magnificent Mile Lights Festival
November 22 heralds the beginning of the Holiday Season, with the illumination of the lights on North Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile. Over one million lights are brightly lit. The magnificent display culminates in a spectacular fireworks show over the Chicago River. There will be festive events and entertainment throughout this special day. At 6 pm Mickey Mouse will perform as Master of Ceremonies to lead the illumination of more than one million lights.
The following fireworks display, at 6:52 pm, will be televised on ABC 7. The Magnificent Mile is famous for upscale shopping, so this is a great day to spend in the city to shop and enjoy the light show. Stores will be open until 10:00 pm. Enjoy the fabulous light spectacle throughout the holiday season.
Santa and his elves will be in front of a candy cane dreamscape from November 26 through December 9. 11 am – 4 pm.
Santa at the John Hancock Observatory
Visitors to the John Hancock Observatory will experience wintry views spanning up to 80 miles and four states. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be riding the cherry-red sleigh into town on November 15 and will appear every Saturday and Sunday through December 24. Visitors will receive one complimentary digital image with Santa. Kids free with every paying adult.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
The annual tree lighting ceremony on Daley Plaza has been changed to Tuesday, December 2 at noon, instead of the day after Thanksgiving. Actress Keri Russell will light Chicago’s tree for the Tree Lighting Ceremony in 2008.
